Hi all, I am in the process of converting a dirt model 1992 DR350 to be street legal. I am doing the wiring myself without the help of a kit. (Please excuse the noob-ness, I am no electrician!). Plan: Add battery. Run power to the battery for charging, run all lights etc from the battery. Problem: From what I've read, I cannot use the stock dirt model Regulator/rectifier for this (cause it will cook the battery?). I also cannot pick up a used street model reg/rec because there are a dif... Jul 4, 2015 — The other 3 wires on that regulator/rectifier in your diagram are: White - Battery hot. Seeing as how this question is asked in almost every dual sport sub, I figured I might as well put together a lil something for y'all. Converting from 6V AC to 12V DC will give you more of a selection in lighting and also allow you to run a battery in case you need one to be street legal in your state. In this setup I have eliminated the battery and am using a capacitor instead to maintain a good voltage at idle. If you need/want a battery simply put the battery in the capacitors spot in the ...

The photo below shows an original AS-2518-18 rectifier board connected to a factory wiring harness. As far as I know, the wire colors are the same for ALL AS-2518-18 applications. (tl;dr - what volt/amp rating diode do I need between alternator and headlight relay, any ideas on good source?) I was cleaning up the Yamaha wiring harness and the hidden diode between the alternator and the headlight relay crumbled in my hands. If it ever had any markings they've long since faded to black. Basically it taps one leg of the 3-phase alternator to turn on headlight only when engine running. The old one is black, slim and unusually long, almost the size of a red crimp butt connec... I've had the bike for 2 years now and most of the time ran alright, never really had too much issue with the battery. Hello riders and technicians, I have a derbi senda 125 with originally a Yamaha 125 cc engine. Few days ago my engine was destroyed because the spark plug wouldn't come out, so the cylinder head got stuck and I couldn't repair it anymore. After that I bought a ybr 125 generation 2 engine and it fits on my frame. The only thing that needed to change was the wiring from stator to wiring loom. From 4 wires to 3 wires (both have 1 neutral switch cable). So these days I'm still working to fix my pro...
I have a KLX400R that I'm doing major maintenance (basically frame off restoration) on and that includes a total overhaul of the electrical wiring system. For background, I do maintenenace on GA aircraft and have done my fair share of basic electrical work. They're a little more complicated than this dirtbike. However, most GA planes dont have CDI units, etc. Anyways, the wiring system on this bike has been a complete rats nest of redneck clip on splices and what not since I bought it years ag...
I turn the key and nothing happens, checked the battery, it's fine. I replaced the fuses, all of them, and nothing. I checked the ignition switch inside and out, looks new. took out my volt meter and not getting any reading on the red wire coming from the female end connecting to switch, which the diagram says is the battery wire. followed it to the fuse box and again no reading, nor coming from the red wire going to regulator/rectifier. Has anyone ever had this problem? I'm just trying to figur...

Long story short. I purchased a bike that the previous owner ripped the wiring out so he could use it as a field bike. We had to make up our own wiring loom. We used the diagram in the bikes manual. 7 years I used the bike and we only had 1 issue, it went through batteries rather fast. After getting fed up buying cheap batteries. I thought I'd get a lithium one. All good until one fateful night, boom. Smoke everywhere, no lights and my leg was burning due to the heat. No lights in the pitch blac...

I have an 02 Big Bear 400 2WD (YFM400P) that I'm trying to get running, and I need some help if anyone can. Before it came to me the previous guy said the push-button start stopped working on him one day so he hot wired an On-Off toggle switch in to bypass it. This worked for a while until one day it caught on fire and melted some of the electrical. Turns out he melted the regulator/rectifier and burnt up one of the pins on the connector for it. I have gotten the machine back to match the facto...
Hello, week or so ago I was having trouble with my bike blowing a fuse when I turned off the kill switch when the bike was running. I've removed the kill switch, and the problem appears to be gone. I bought a new reg/rectifier to replace the original separate reg and recitifier combo, but want to make sure everythiing is in order before I install so I don't break the new one.. So I have a couple questions about the ignition switch. I am a newbie at this so sorry if there are some dumb questions....
I am currently trying to wire up my project bike. This is my first time doing anything electrical, besides some work on RC cars when I was younger, and I feel very put of my league. The original wiring harness is shot so I bought a new starter solenoid and regulator/rectifier hoping I could work them into the system, however, I’m finding there’s more issues in other places including the starter button, key, and ignition switch. I’ve tried going off of some bare bones wiring diagrams but can’t se...
